Dr. Betty Harris is an African American chemist who faced many cultural barriers while growing up, including racism, sexism and class-ism. Despite these hardships, she had many accomplishments, especially in the scientific community. Harris held many highly respect jobs and was also the inventor of an explosives spot test. Among her many successes are inventing the chemistry merit badge for the Girl Scouts and also achieved the Governor’s Trailblazer Award.
